Fireproof sealing strips: Due to expandable graphite its expandability and high-temperature resistance, makes expandable graphite an excellent sealing material, widely used in fireproof sealing strips. There are two main forms: The first is to mix, vulcanize, and form expandable graphite material with rubber materials, inorganic flame retardants, accelerators, vulcanizing agents, reinforcing agents, fillers, etc., to produce expanded sealing strips of various specifications, mainly used in fire doors, fireproof glass windows and other occasions. This expanded sealing strip can block smoke flow from beginning to end at normal temperatures and during fires; The other form uses a fiberglass tape as a carrier, where expandable graphite is bonded to the carrier with a certain adhesive. The shear resistance provided by the carbides formed by this adhesive at high temperatures can effectively prevent the graphite from sliding. It is mainly used in fire doors, but it cannot effectively block the flow of cold smoke at normal or low temperatures, so it must be used in conjunction with a normal-temperature sealant.
Flame retardancy of plastic materials: expandable graphite is a good flame retardant for plastic materials, featuring non-toxicity and pollution-free characteristics. It can achieve ideal flame retardant effects whether used alone or mixed with other flame retardants. When expandable graphite achieves the same flame retardant effect, its dosage is far less than that of ordinary flame retardants. Its working principle is: at high temperatures, expandable graphite expands sharply, suffocating the flame, and simultaneously, the resulting expanded graphite material covers the surface of the substrate, isolating heat radiation and oxygen contact. The acid radicals inside its interlayer are released upon expansion, also promoting the carbonization of the substrate, thereby achieving good results through multiple flame retardant methods.
